Primary Rhinoplasty
The nose, which is the most aesthetically striking structure of the face, has very important functions such as warming, cleaning and moisturizing the air we breathe, as well as the sense of smell. Surgeries that correct the aesthetic appearance of the nose are called "Rhinoplasty", and surgeries performed for health reasons are called "Septorinoplasty".
What You Need to Know
This surgery can change your physical appearance and increase your self-confidence, but before deciding to have surgery, you should think very carefully about your expectations and share them with your doctor. The most suitable candidates for rhinoplasty are those who apply not for a perfect result, but for the purpose of correcting the appearance of the nose. The success of the surgery depends on the surgeon's knowledge, skill and experience, as well as the patient's age, general health status, structure of the nasal skin, degree of deterioration in the appearance of the nose, tissues and some special problems of the patient.
Process
Sedation (tranquilizing drugs) is applied before the surgery. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. During the surgery, the skin of the nose is separated from the underlying cartilage and bone tissues and shaped into the desired shape. The shaping depends on the patient's problem and the technique chosen by the surgeon. Usually, the excess tissue pieces are removed with very precise cutters. The removed tissues can sometimes be used to complete deficiencies in another part of the nose. Rhinoplasty surgeries can be performed on women from the age of 16-17 and on men from the age of 17-18.
Detailed Information
In aesthetic nose surgeries, it is not possible to achieve a perfect result in terms of correcting the appearance, as each patient's tissue responds differently to the surgery. Although it is a single organ, the nose is a structure with two sides located in the midline of the face, and achieving a symmetrically similar appearance is a situation that makes perfect success difficult.
Revision Rhinoplasty
Even very small errors in rhinoplasty surgery can manifest themselves as significant asymmetries, respiratory function disorders, and irregularities in the form of protrusions and depressions on the nasal dorsum and tip.
Process
Minor revisions are performed with local or general anesthesia, while almost all major revisions are performed with general anesthesia. Minor revisions take 30-45 minutes, while major revisions can take 3-6 hours. The length of time is determined by the number and difficulty of deformities, the need for rib cartilage and ear cartilage. If no risk is specified in terms of anesthesia, the outcome, not the duration, is always important.
Detailed Information
Nasal revision surgery is most commonly performed as a result of excessive reduction of the nose. Because excessive reduction of the nose causes the airways to narrow and breathing problems, and also causes the nasal skin not to adapt to the new structure, resulting in the nasal skin sagging downwards. Apart from this, asymmetries resulting from different interventions on both sides of the nose are also one of the frequently encountered deformations. This and many other aesthetic and functional defects can be corrected with secondary surgeries.
